Press Statement - dated 11th August 2016

It is with great regret that the committee of Killymoon Rangers Football Club announce that it has withdrawn the team from the Ballymena Intermediate League, and will not take part in football activities for the rest of the 2016/17 season. In the meantime, the committee structures remain intact, and the future of the club has been put under consideration.
With 45 years of history behind Killymoon Rangers Football Club, it has been an incredibly difficult decision to withdraw the team from competition this year. However, it has been a necessary decision.
The committee would like to thank all those who have, and continue to help Killymoon Rangers Football Club, namely our main sponsors, the Royal Hotel, Cookstown and the Thom family in particular. We are grateful for all the support which they, and many other sponsors, give to the club year on year.
Following relegation from the Belfast Telegraph Championship II just a couple of years ago, the club has seen many changes on and off the field. One of the biggest blows for the club came in January 2016, when our Chairman Leslie Hall passed away suddenly. We had hoped that former club members and the local community would rally around and offer support at our time of need. However times remained difficult and with past, potential and even current players being persuaded elsewhere, Killymoon Rangers were left in an untenable position.
A decision was taken on 2nd August 2016 to withdraw the club from the Ballymena Intermediate League, with a view to rebuild and restructure Cookstown's longest serving football club.
A great deal of thanks must go to those who have, and still are, working non-stop behind the scenes for Killymoon Rangers. A lot of time, energy and passion has been poured into this club for many years now from some very determined individuals. You all know who you are.
Club Secretary Malcolm McConkey has this to say:
'Killymoon Rangers has not folded nor has any intentions of folding, with an active committee still working away behind the scenes. To say that recent times had been unkind to the club would be an understatement. The committee will keep everyone informed as to when The New Moon Rises'
