Saturday 28th July 2007

Killymoon Rangers got a reality check when they travelled to Omagh on Saturday to play Fermanagh and Western Side Strathroy Harps. With only 2 weeks before the start of the season there is still plenty of work to be done if Killymoon want to be challenging for honours this season.

It was the Harps who started brighter in the first 20 minutes with their best chance coming from a deflected free-kick that keeper Gareth Maguire having to react quickly to keep out. As the half progressed Killymoon started to take control of the match but found it difficult to get past a well drilled Harps defence. On one occasion when William Montgomery looked like getting through he was clinically fouled and fortunately for the defender no action was taken in the spirit of the friendly match.

Both teams made a number of changes early in the second half and although Killymoon finished the first half stronger it was the hosts who again looked sharper and began to regain control of the match. It was no surprise when the Harps opened the scoring on 50 minutes from the penalty spot and within 25 minutes of the re-start they were 4 nil ahead. Two of the goals came from corners with the Killymoon defence standing still as the hosts showed how to attack the ball and win headers in the opponents penalty area.

Stephen McElhatton did score a consolation near the end for Killymoon after, finishing well from a Cameron Stewart cross, but overall this was a very poor performance, with the only bright points being the performances of new signings Craig Martin and Martin Daly.
