After two draws the pressure was on the visitors to get their season going against a Laurelvale side who boasted a great home record in the league. The match started at 100 miles an hour with the home side playing the best football but finding the Killymoon back line of N Purvis, A Fearson and G McFarland in outstanding form and with the visitors defending from the front they soon took a firm grasp on the game and began to dominate possession. The first chances of the game saw B Mulligan and P McElhatton test the home keeper and on 6 minutes Killymoon grabbed a lead when, after good work by Bogan, P McElhatton carved out a shooting opportunity only to see his shot spilled at the feet of Mulligan who gleefully fired his side in front. Unfortunately the impressive Mulligan, who had been elbowed after only 3 minutes, couldn't continue for long after his goal and had to be replaced as he showed signs of concussion. With Killymoon now playing all the football livewire P McElhatton brilliantly scissor kicked just over and S Purvis thundered a header off the bar with the keeper stranded. On 18 minutes, after great work by sub M Stewart, the home defence failed to clear their lines and after an air shot dummy with his right foot, S Purvis blasted home from 20 yards to double Killymoon's lead.
An incident five minutes from halftime saw Laurelvale reduced to 10 men after McMullan was struck off the ball, but it was the home side who finished the half the stronger as Killymoon weathered the storm of several corners.

The second half saw the home side press forward, bypassing their midfield and testing the Moon defence with long balls into the box. In the space of 10 minutes Killymoon keeper G Maguire, back to his brilliant best, singlehandedly thwarted the Vale strikers with three outstanding saves as his defenders struggled with the tall home strikers. On 61 minutes all seemed lost for the home side as a slide rule pass from S McElhatton released skipper D McMullan who blasted his sides third goal and minutes later things got worse for Laurelvale as they lost another player for a second yellow card.
With the game now practically over, Gomes came on for Montgomery who had dominated the right wing, but with 18 minutes remaining the ref seemed to try and even things up as he gave McFarland a second yellow and awarded the home side a very dubious penalty which they despatched with ease.
Ten man Killymoon now weathered a lot of pressure against the fired up nine men of Laurelvale and only a few last ditch tackles kept Moon's two goal lead intact. The introduction of veteran E Hudson, who's warm up consisted of him removing his tracksuit, helped ease the tension as Killymoon, with Gomes's fresh legs also covering a lot of ground, comfortably saw out the last ten minutes to deservedly win the valuable 3 points as they continue to climb the table.

Co-manager Mark Wilson said, 'We fully deserved the points as we worked hard all over the pitch and every player bravely played their part. Laurelvale couldn't cope with our formation and rarely tested our defence from open play and with the midfield four battling like lions, Packie McElhatton became the link to our front two. This was a great all round performance obtained without our leading goalscorer W Smith, but it's one which we have to carry into our next game at home to Blackers Mill.'

Killymoon Team: G Maguire, N Purvis, G McFarland, A Fearson, S Purvis, S McElhatton, D McMullan, W Montgomery, P McElhatton, M Bogan, B Mulligan. Subs M Stewart, F Gomes, E Hudson.
