| Killymoon Rangers slim hopes of beating Warrenpoint Town to the league title looked to have evaporated last Saturday when they lost heavily against Tandragee Rovers. After six successive victories Killymoon went into this match full of confidence against one of the pre-season favourites for the league, but it was the home team who ended the day with all three points.

| As with the previous match against Dollingstown, Killymoon were second best in the opening exchanges, taking 15 minutes before they settled and began to get any rhythm. The first half was fairly even and very open with the Tandragee’s best chances coming from set plays, but the visitors defence stood strong to deal with the threat. Killymoon’s best chances came mid-way through the half, firstly when Martin Bogan beat the off-side trap and had a free run at the home goal. When the striker reached the Tandragee penalty area he was closed down by a defender but managed to get his shot away, but unfortunately for the visitors the keeper got his angles right and turned the ball past his near post. Adrian Ferson had Killymoon’s other chance when the Tandragee keeper could only punch his clearance to the edge of the penalty area and Ferson lobbed the ball back towards goal, but his effort was easily cleared off the line by a covering defender.

| With no goals in the first half the game was easily balanced, but this shifted dramatically to the home side as they stunned the visitors with 4 goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Despite putting pressure on the home defence, with Stephen McElhatton having the best chance, just failing to connect with a header from an excellent cross in front of goal, Killymoon conceded three times on the counter attack, in a ten minute period. Despite dealing comfortably with similar attacks in the first half, the visiting defence were left exposed as Tandragee’s front-line carved through them to virtually kill off the game early in the second half. Still reeling from finding themselves three goals behind, despite having a fair share of possession, things went from bad to worse in the 22nd minute when the referee gave a dubious free-kick against David McMullan 20 yards from goal and they were made to pay as the Tandragee left back curled in an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. This could have destroyed lesser teams, but Killymoon rolled up their sleeves and hit straight back 3 minutes later when Brian Mulligan scored from a tight angle and it was game on with 15 minutes left when Nigel Purvis chipped in a free-kick after Stephen Purvis was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Things could have been even better shortly after, as the home side began to panic, but Mulligan shot narrowly wide, after Bogan had set him up with a cushioned header. This proved to be decisive as the home side again capitalised on some slack defensive play to score number five and finish off the visitors. |
|
| This was a very disappointing result for Killymoon after pulling themselves back into league contention with an unbeaten run in the league from the end of October and this Saturday they will have to pick themselves up as they face Hanover, who were the last team to beat them before Tandragee. The team hasn't become a bad side because of one result and they know they are good enough to get back on winning ways if they tighten up for the full 90 minutes. The match kicks off at 2.15pm at the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena.
