This was Killymoon's first real test of their IFA Championship credentials, against a Omagh Utd side packed with Irish League experience. Omagh manager Roy McCreadie has assembled a really strong side which includes several ex Omagh Town players drawn from local teams like Dergview, Ballinamallard and the top junior sides in the area and their ultimate aim is to bring senior football back to the Omagh area. The impressive Athletic ground 3 miles outside Omagh provided the perfect backdrop to what turned out to be a competitive and at times high standard pre season friendly.

From the first whistle Killymoon moved the ball quickly and accurately as they pressed the home side back into their own half, with Mulligan in particular showing some great form as he harried the Omagh defence. After only 3 minutes the visitors took the lead when a great McFarland corner was nodded home by Mulligan at the near post with the home defence all at sea.

Killymoon looked well in control at this point and five minutes later as the home side tried to press forward, a super three man move from Killymoon opened up the Omagh defence again and a last ditch tackle saw McMullan fouled as he prepared to shoot. Unfortunately the resultant penalty was blasted high and wide by Montgomery and this seemed to spur on the home side who really took the game to Killymoon for the remainder of the first half. A shapeless Rangers side were lucky on several occasions as Omagh squandered good shooting opportunities and Maguire in the Moon goal also showed glimpses of his old form with two impressive stops. New sweeper Bogan, who had a very good game, also cleared off his own line as Killymoon were restricted to the odd break by their opponents who controlled possession as the visitors resorted to the long ball game. After several close calls the visitors offside trap was at last breached after 39 minutes and Omagh deservedly equalised with Maguire totally exposed by his defence.

Killymoon held on until halftime, as Omagh tried to turn their possession into more goals and it was the Rangers management who were the busier in the interval.
The visitors made three changes at halftime with Fearson coming into the defence for Martin, Doyle replacing the industrious Stewart up front and young Michael Brown making his debut in goal for the injured Maguire. |

As the new shape Moon side settled in, Brown had to be sharp to make several important interceptions but slowly the visiting midfielders took charge of the game and it was the Rangers attack which created most of the opportunities in the second half. Once again Montgomery shot over when well placed and McMullan really should have headed in another pinpoint McFarland corner but the second goal seemed to elude the now confident Killymoon players as Omagh began to tire. At long last the Killymoon passing game came to the fore with subs Smith and Campbell combining well to supply Montgomery who fired narrowly wide but eventually the game coasted to the final whistle with a draw a fair result, both teams taking a lot from the evenly matched contest.
