Despite going into this CIS cup game on the back of some poor league results, Killymoon were performing to a high level and confidence was high. A number of changes were made to the starting line-up to freshen up the team and attempt to make the most of the wide pitch at the Riada Stadium. |

| The opening quarter of an hour was very scrappy with neither team able to keep possession, but as the half progressed it was the home side who started to take control. On 20 minutes Glebe opened the scoring when Graham Vauls found time at the edge of the visitors’ penalty area to shot low past Gareth Maguire in the Killymoon goal. The standard of football didn’t improve after the goal, but Glebe looked more comfortable as Killymoon struggled to put any pressure on the home sides defence and it was no surprise when Glebe extended their lead on 35 minutes. Indecision at the edge of the Killymoon penalty area saw 3 players leave the ball to each other only to see Ryan Marks take control and smash the ball into the top corner of the visitors’ net to give Glebe a 2 nil lead at half-time. |

| The Killymoon players knew they had to improve in the second half and that is what they did, getting closer to their opponents and putting pressure on the home defence for the first time in the match. The introduction of William Montgomery and Brian Mulligan added some bite to the attack and on a number of occasions Mulligan twisted in the penalty area, but unfortunately on each occasion his cross was cleared by the Glebe defence. With Killymoon pushing forward gaps were being left at the back and it took a number of last gasp tackles by Kyle Ferguson and Martin Bogan to keep the visitors’ in the match. Despite the improved performance in the second half Killymoon found it difficult to create any clear cut opportunities against the solid home defence and Glebe eventually killed the game in the last minute when under pressure K Ferguson could only turn the ball into his own net from a left wing cross. |

| This was a disappointing display from Killymoon and it looked as if the effort put into the previous matches had caught up with the players. The 2 week break until the next match will hopefully give some of the players’ time to recover from the injuries they have been playing with since the start of the season. However, the work rate of the players in the second half couldn’t be questioned and Andy Neill did provide a bright point from the match with an assured performance in defence, in only his second appearance at this level. With Kyle Ferguson going to New Zealand for a year, following his recent marriage, Andy will hopefully be able to keep up the performances and fill the gap left by Kyle. The club would like to wish Kyle and his new wife best wishes for the future. Killymoon’s next match is against Banbridge Town at the Sports Arena on Tuesday 9th September. |
