Intermediate Cup, Round 3

Killymoon Rangers progressed into round 4 of the Coca Cola Intermediate cup on Saturday, winning 1-0 at a bitterly cold windswept Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown.
Downpatrick started the game with the wind on their backs in the 1st half. On 10 minutes, Michael Brown was called on to turn a Downpatrick free kick round the post for a corner. Killymoon responded with a Stephen Purvis cross into the box, which Killymoon failed to get on the end of. From a Johnny Young free kick, Stephen Purvis almost opened the scoring, but his header was turned round the post by the Downpatrick keeper. From the resulting corner, William Montgomery's header came back off the under side of the crossbar and into the keepers arms. Killymoon did open the scoring in the 22nd minute, with the only goal of the game, Daryl Shannon caught the Downpatrick left back in possession, passed inside to William Montgomery who ran through the defence to score. Cameron Stewart and Kevin Kelly linked up well to play in Warren Smith, whose shot was saved by the keeper. Half Time 0-1
Killymoon, with the wind on their backs in the second half, started well. Johnny Young had a shot saved by the keeper and Daryl Shannon hit the angle of post and crossbar. William Montgomery had a long range shot wide, and Davy McMullan went close to adding Killymoon's 2nd goal, his header from a Johnny Young corner going narrowly wide. Downpatrick almost made Killymoon pay for their missed chances, a cross from the left was missed by the Killymoon defence, but the Downpatrick forward was unable to finish. Michael Brown gathered a Downpatrick free kick. Daryl Shannon broke down the right, and was unlucky with his shot, and went close again from a throw in. Killymoon should have scored their second goal of the game, when Johnny Young shot over following a long throw in. With Killymoon unable to get the second goal, and the clock ticking down, Downpatrick tried their best for an equaliser which never came. In the last minute of the game Michael Brown appeared to be on the receiving end of a head butt, which the referee missed. Final Score; Downpatrick 0 Killymoon Rangers 1.
