Killymoon Rangers hosted 68th Newtownabbey Old Boys at Fairhill on Saturday afternoon in the 1st round of the Canada Trophy competition.

Brown sugar
The match was Kindly sponsored by Brown Sugar Cafe Cookstown and saw the Cookstown side put on an impressive display.
Killymoon went 2 nil up shortly after, following a cross from Richard Donaghy, which was again turned into the net after a poor attempted clearance from the Newtownabbey defender. Shortly before half time Killymoon made it three, when the ball sat up nicely on the edge of the box for David Frizelle, who struck home well, the keeper only getting fingers tips on the ball.
In the second half, with the home side pushing on for more goals, Killymoon let slip at the back, and some poor marking left a Newtownabbey player free in the area to slot the ball past goalkeeper Kyle Dobson. 3-1. Two substitutions were made by stand-in manager Andrew Graeme. Bringing on fresh legs in the form of Owen Coyle and Ciaran Thompson.
Soon after Killymoon hit back at 68th Newtownabbey. Following some good build up play down the left hand side, Stefan Shields found himself free in the box and struck home well past the defenceless goalkeeper making it 4-1 Killymoon.
Late in the second half second, again following some good build up play in midfield, David Frizelle headed the ball down to Stuart Donaghy who slotted home calmly into the bottom corner, only to see his goal disallowed for offside, much to the protests of the Killymoon players. Moments later, Donaghy's luck got worse, as he was carried off following an awkward knee injury in the opposition's box. Stewart Gibson came on for the injured player, and played a part in the next and final goal of the game, as Ciaran Thompson tucked one away just before full time.

Robert Allen
A strong performance from the home team, which sees them into the next round of the Canada Trophy. The man of the man, picked by the supporters and kindly sponsored by Sid Wilson, was Robert Allen.
Next up for Killymoon is another home fixture, against Ashgrove Rovers in the 3rd round of the Mid-Ulster Shield, which will be played on Saturday 11th November, at Fairhill Park. 1.30pm Kickoff.
