Killymoon Reserves recorded their fourth win in a row on Saturday and in so doing, moved up to fourth place in the Reserve League.
Despite missing several regulars and the windy conditions Rangers again produced a superb first half display to lead by three goals at the break for the second match in succession. After an opening ten minutes when Killymoon took time to settle they dominated the rest of the half and could have been even further ahead. One passing move in particular, involving no less than six players from defense to attack totally tore the home side apart and resulted in Cameron Stewart applying the finishing touch after a neat one-two with strike partner, Johnny Scott. Stewart had already opened the scoring ten minutes earlier from close range after being set up by Francisco Gomez who was playing his first match in four weeks due to injury. Scott added a third on the half hour mark as Rangers threatened to run riot. Gomez and Mustapa Kaplan also had good chances to extend the lead before the break and Jason Devlin went close with two long-range free-kicks.
Rangers found the going a lot tougher in the second period as the home side piled forward in search of a way back into the match. But they found Rangers' defence in resilient mood, well marshalled by veteran Alan Fluke. Killymoon were relying on the pace of their attackers to forge chances on the break and Stewart should have sewn the match up when he was through one on one with 'keeper but he failed to convert. In the Killymoon goal Steven McKernan had little to do untul the final fifteen minutes of the match when Derryhirk were throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the visiting defence. He was eventually beaten by a thirty yard thunderbolt that flew into the top corner. This proved only a consolation and Rangers coasted to another comfortable victory.
