On Saturday Killymoon Rangers Reserves entertained County Down's Killowen Celtic in the Irish Junior Cup, a top Junior side who were narrowly beaten by Lurgan Celtic Boys in the semi-final of the Gerard Kennedy Cup mid-week.

In the first twenty minutes of the game the Reserves took the game to their illustrious counterparts with Cameron Stewart and Peter Scott combining well up front supported by the powerful midfield duo of Jeff Hall and Ryan Glasgow. A powerful run by winger Graham Brown through the heart of Killowen's defence led to Killymoon being awarded a penalty as he drove goalwards. Unfortunately Brown dragged the spot kick wide as Killymoon missed the perfect opportunity to cause an upset in this year's competition.

From that point on Killowen exerted their authority and pedigree on the game dominating possession for the rest of the half. On the thirty minute mark Killowen's dominance reaped rewards with Killymoon's defence appealing for a throw from the Killowen linesman. With the defenders standing appealing for a throw, Killowen played on, their left winger driving in a lovely cross met by their striker. Into the second half with a change in system to try and push for an equaliser the Reserves struggled against a well drilled Killowen who limited Killymoon's strikers to long distance drives. A mistake in defence led to Killowen's second on the hour mark, followed by their third ten minutes later.

Andrew Johnston, Derek Hudson and Brian O'Donnell entered the fray to try and retrieve something from the game. But apart from a free-kick by Johnston twenty-five yards out it just wasn't going to be Killymoon's day.

The Reserves will have to show more confidence, composure and resilience next Saturday at home to league pace-setters Armagh Celtic.

TEAM: Malcolm Steadman, Brian Smith,Kyle Smith, Mark Freeburn, Jason Devlin, Graham Brown, Ryan Glasgow, Jeff Hall, Chris Burns, Peter Scott, Cameron Stewart. Subs: Andrew Johnston, Derek Hudson, Brian O'Donnell.
