Linda Welshman Cup Quarter Final
Castlestar were the visitors for the quarter final of the Linda Welshman cup. Killymoon are really pushing for silverware this year and this is a cup were they are one of the favourites.
As soon as the ref blew the whistle the Wee Moon pushed Castlestar back and as early as the second minute Neil Young had a shot which looked destinted for the top corner only for the keeper to push it over the bar. From then on it was one way traffic and it was from a corner in the third minute Killymoon scored. A whipped in cross and Craig Martin for the second week in a row put the ball into the net.Within minutes the Wee Moon doubled the lead when Brownlee shot past the keeper and then 5 minutes later Martin got his head on the ball to make it 3-0 to the home side after only 10 minutes. Castlestar didn't know what had hit them and they tried to regroup. The weather was to play havoc for the rest of the first half with rain, sleet and snow all making an appearance. With Killymoon some what taking their foot of the peddle Castlestar got a bit of a breather but that was short lived because young David Millar then got himself onto the score sheet with a terrific shot to beat the keeper and then within the space of a couple of minutes Kilpatrick got himself a goal from a corner. the score at half time was 5-0.
With the match over as a contest manager decided to make a trio of substitutions but that was to take place after a corner and sure enough it was Craig Martin score to make it a hatrick on the day before being subbed. On came Smith, Ferson and Simon Young to see the game out, but the scoring hadn't finished as Millar was to get himself another goal on the day with another rifling shot. Just with the game coming to a close it was veteran Ferson who got himself onto the score sheet with a header to make the final score 8-0 to Killymoon.
Manager Phil Gray said after the match, "Great result for the Wee Moon and now we progress into the semi final. Well done to Castlestar for keeping their heads up and making a game of it, well done to everyone"
Next up a top of the league clash with Ballyclare at Fairhill 2 o'clock K.O.
